Ready, set… play!

Young, and maybe not so young Nillumbik residents have a fresh round of completed playground upgrades to explore this summer.

As part of Council’s ongoing playground renewals program, several local suburban playgrounds have been refreshed with new equipment designed to spark imagination, support active play and welcome children of all abilities.

From climbing and swinging to exploring and social play, there’s something new to discover at:

• Irene Court Reserve, Diamond Creek now features a playground for children aged two to 12, with a mega cube climbing unit, slides, swings and a much-loved basket swing.
• Kangaroo Ground Emergency Operations Centre Playground has received a simple upgrade, with new double junior swings replacing the original timber set.
• James Cook Drive Reserve, Diamond Creek has been refreshed with a multi-play unit, upgraded swings and accessible play elements, tied together with an exploration theme.
• Alistair Knox Park, Eltham has enhanced its existing play space with a basket swing, log pile, teepee and hammock, creating opportunities for imaginative and social play.

Nillumbik Mayor Cr Naomi Joiner said the works reflect Council’s commitment to keeping local play spaces fun, safe and inclusive.

“Local playgrounds are where friendships are made, children’s confidence grows and the community can connect,” Cr Joiner said.

“This ongoing program ensures we can enjoy high-quality play areas close to home, while we continue to maintain our larger destination playgrounds.”

With more than 60 public playgrounds across the Shire, regular audits help guide renewals based on age, condition and community use, ensuring there’s always somewhere new to explore.
