Get your property bushfire-ready today
Published on 30 October 2025
Have you started preparing your property for the upcoming bushfire season? It’s never too early to get started.
Watch our short video to see easy steps you can take today to protect your home.
Simple actions now can make a big difference later.
- Clean up around your home
- Remove fine fuels such as leaves and twigs from gutters and around buildings
- Keep grass cut to less than 10 centimetres
- Ensure home and access points are clearly visible for emergency vehicles.
If you live on a larger property, create and maintain firebreaks and consider how livestock, pets and family members will stay safe on high-risk days.
If you’re planning to burn off vegetation, remember you may need a permit, depending on your property size and location. Burning off is not permitted during the Declared Fire Danger Period, with the start date still to be announced.
You can also take your green waste to the Recycling Centre in Plenty. All residents receive three free green waste vouchers each year with their rates notice.
“We all have a part to play in keeping our community safe,” said Mayor John Dumaresq.
“Preparing your property early, clearing gutters, trimming trees and bushes and planning ahead, helps protect not just your home, but your neighbours and our whole community.”
