Nillumbik Shire Council recently hosted the annual Blessing of the Fleet at the Kangaroo Ground Emergency Operations Centre, bringing together CFA volunteers, brigade members, local leaders and the community ahead of the upcoming fire season.
Held on 11 September, the longstanding ceremony recognised the dedication and service of CFA volunteers who help protect Nillumbik communities throughout the year.
The ceremony included readings and prayers, followed by the blessing of CFA vehicles, symbolising the readiness and resilience of local emergency services as they prepare for another bushfire season.
As part of the evening, Council provided a total contribution of $49,000 to support the ongoing work of Nillumbik's CFA brigades and groups.

Council acknowledges the invaluable contribution of CFA volunteers who generously give their time, skills and expertise to help keep the community safe.
With fire season approaching, residents are encouraged to take steps now to prepare their households, properties and emergency plans.
The Bushfire and Community Safety Expo will be held on Sunday 18 October 2026, providing access to expert advice, practical information and resources to help residents prepare for emergencies.
