New series of sustainability workshops tailored to locals' interests
Published on 27 May 2026
REthink Nillumbik is a program of fun, interactive events that empower locals to take small, everyday actions for a sustainable future.
Since launching in 2024, over 800 attendees have learned about everything from draught-proofing their home to repairing and restoring furniture.
We’ve also learned what locals most want to know about.
Our latest series of REthink sessions has been tailor-made for our community’s interests. All 21 upcoming sessions are free except one (Learn to use a drill, $10).
What do Nillumbik locals want to learn about sustainability?
Three key trends have emerged since the program started.
- Going electric. The community is increasingly interested in all things electrification, especially rooftop solar, home battery storage and electric vehicles.
- Finding efficiencies at home. As cost of living rises, many people want to learn simple, budget-friendly ways to improve the comfort of their homes and lower the cost of their bills.
- Repairing and upcycling. Locals are very keen to learn simple, practical DIY skills that help keep household products in circulation for longer, contributing to the circular economy.
Mayor Naomi Joiner encouraged community members to make the most of the upcoming program of events.
“It’s fantastic to see Nillumbik locals take sustainability into their own hands, while learning skills and meeting new people.”
“This complements the work that Council is doing to achieve net-zero emissions in Council operations by 2030 and to support net-zero community emissions by 2035.”
