Beyond Age

Nillumbik Council's Ageing Well team, in partnership with Eltham High School and Seniors Rights Victoria, is launching Beyond Age - a range of portraits that aim to challenge stereotypes of age and ageing.

This project encourages older people to reflect on their life journey and highlights the value, wisdom and contribution of older people in our community.

The afternoon will involve Seniors Rights Victoria/Council on the Ageing Victoria CEO, Ben Rogers speaking on ageism followed by a brief overview of the Nillumbik Beyond Age project, launch of the artworks and afternoon tea.

About the project

This intergenerational project brought together members of Nillumbik Shire Council’s Positive Ageing Advisory Committee and photography students from Eltham High School. Participants attended a workshop by Senior Rights Victoria exploring the benefits and challenges of ageing, followed by a photoshoot. Students then created artworks by combining portraits of committee members - both current and from their youth - with personal reflections and advice to their younger selves.
