About Garambi Baanj

This walk is being held at Garambi Baanj, which means "laughing waters" in the traditional Woi wurrung language, and is a place of vital ecological and cultural significance.

In the words of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation: "it is one of only a few known remaining iuk (eel) traps on Country once found the length of the Birraung (Yarra) and the Maribyrnong".

It is a central part of the Garambi Baanj/Laughing Waters Cultural Precinct, operated by InPlace.

About Joe Costello

Joseph Costello (Joe) is the Senior Environmental Educator with the Wurundjeri Education team.

Growing up in Wangaratta, Joe developed a passion for the natural environment, which grew while studying Environmental Science and Ecology at La Trobe University in the late 1990s and through his 24 years of experience as an ecologist.

Since 2012, Joe has worked with the Narrap Rangers on ecological burns and cultural engagements through his role at Hume City Council, before becoming a Team Leader with the Narrap Rangers in 2023 and joining the Wurundjeri Education team in 2024.
