DIY home energy improvements

Small changes around the home can reduce your energy bills and improve comfort year-round. And most of them require no specialist knowledge to carry out.

This workshop will give you direct, hands-on experience with seven straightforward energy-saving measures you can perform yourself.

You'll have the chance to watch, learn, and practice these skills so you can perform them with confidence at home.

What you'll learn

  • use a thermal imaging camera to identify draughts and gaps in insulation
  • use an energy monitor to measure how much power your appliances are drawing
  • measure shower flow rate to understand how much water you use
  • clean reverse cycle air conditioner filters to increase their efficiency
  • use a caulking gun to seal gaps
  • fit V-seal and rubber strips to door and window frames to stop draughts
  • apply low-cost window glazing materials including bubble wrap and Renshade foil to reduce heat loss and gain.

This session is suited to all skill levels, and useful for anyone looking to save money and increase home comfort. You'll leave with a clearer understanding of where your home is likely losing energy, and the practical skills to start fixing it.

All tools and materials provided on the day.
