Growing older is inevitable but slowing down the ageing process is an appealing goal which may be achievable.

As we age, it is important to remain active and enjoy our latter years. How long an individual lives is known as lifespan, but a more important concept is healthspan- how long you remain healthy and productive throughout that lifespan.

With improvements in medical care and better knowledge of ways to identify (or even prevent) many common illnesses at a very early stage there are a number of strategies which allow us to maximise our healthspan. Investing in your future health should not be an optional extra when it comes to lifestyle habits.

The Australian population is expanding at a greater rate than ever before in the history of our nation and the largest increase is in those over 65 years of age.

By investing in our overall health and staying in good shape both in mind and body it is possible to maximise being active and enhance enjoyment in the remaining years of life, even after retirement age.

About Dr Peter Larkins

Dr Peter Larkins is a specialist Sport and Exercise Physician, health educator, media commentator, Olympic athlete, corporate speaker, administrator and is still looking for his calling in life!

Following his sporting and Physician career, Peter has drawn on his knowledge and experience to focus on community and population health by delivering messages on healthy lifestyle to all individuals regardless of their age or ability. He is passionate about promoting healthy living for all to improve quality of life, longevity and to reduce health care costs in the Australian community.

This presentation will look at the reasons why we age and identify some of the lifestyle habits we should all adopt to slow down the ageing process and ensure that our health remains positive, regardless of our birth date. Through these habits healthspan can be increased so that it occupies the major percentage of our lifespan.

Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of Peter's book "The Healthy Hundred - 100 ways to a Healthier, Happier and Longer Life" and ask Peter questions over morning tea.
