About the Lost Skills sessions

REthink Nillumbik is hosting a series of free workshops at the Nillumbik Repair Cafe. At these sessions, you can learn fantastic new skills to use at home, and also help Nillumbik reduce its waste and transition to a circular economy. A circular economy is one that repairs, reuses and repurposes objects rather than throwing them away.

October 'Lost Skills': Caring for timber

At the October Lost Skills session, our professional French polisher Vassi will show you how to clean and care for all types of new, vintage, and antique timber furniture and objects to prolong their appeal and lifespan. Learn about the best products and techniques to use on different timbers, and how to protect your pieces from factors like sunlight, temperature, spills and humidity.

The session is suited to all kinds of timber items, including solid and veneered products, small and large furniture, wooden boxes and housewares, picture frames and mirrors, timber ornaments and more.

If you like, you can bring along a timber object or small item of furniture and get personalised advice on improving its care and appearance. If you can't bring an item, snap some photos and bring those along instead.

The session is free, but bookings are necessary so we know numbers.

Who it's for

All Lost Skills sessions are free to attend and open to everyone in Nillumbik. This session is great for anyone wanting to learn a handy new skill, save money by doing their own DIY, or support a circular economy by giving objects new purpose and a new lease on life.
