Lost Skills: Knife and tool sharpening

lost skills: sharpening

REthink Nillumbik is hosting a series of free and low-cost workshops at the local Hurstbridge and Edendale repair cafes. At these sessions you can learn fantastic new skills to use at home, and help Nillumbik reduce its waste and transition to a circular economy.

A circular economy is one that repairs, reuses and repurposes objects rather than throwing them away.

Sharpening is a skill that will serve you for life.

This hands-on workshop will cover the fundamentals of sharpening knives, scissors, and common hand tools like secateurs, shears and saws. You'll learn how to read an edge, understand the correct angles for different tools, and work through a progression of sharpening methods so you can maintain your tools at home with just some basic equipment and skills.

Bring along your own knives, scissors, or any hand tool you'd like to sharpen. You'll work on your own items during the session and leave with them sharper than when you arrived.

Basic sharpening equipment provided. Bring the tools you want to learn on.

We are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible event environment for all attendees. If you have accessibility or inclusion requirements regarding this event, please contact us about how we can help on environment@nillumbik.vic.gov.au.
