low and no cost ways to save energy bills

Reducing your energy use at home doesn't have to mean expensive upgrades or major renovations. There are dozens of simple, low-cost measures that can make a genuine difference to your comfort and your bills.

This session will walk you through a range of improvements you can make yourself at home without specialist skills or significant outlay. You'll come away with a range of ideas from quick fixes to slightly more involved projects.

What you'll learn

Topics covered include installing low-cost secondary glazing on windows, making your own pelmets, and choosing the best types of window coverings for retaining heat during colder months. We'll look at draught sealing using foam rod and a caulking gun, and cover how to keep split system filters clean for better efficiency.

On the heating and cooling side, you'll learn how to use thermostats and temperature settings effectively, how to take advantage of zones so you're only heating and cooling the spaces you're actually using, and how low-cost personal heating options can reduce how hard your main systems have to work.

Taken individually, each of these measures is modest. But together they add up to a noticeably warmer, more comfortable home and smaller energy bills - without calling in a tradie or spending a lot of money.

Who is it for?

This session is ideal for anyone looking to make affordable home energy upgrades that will save money and keep their home cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
