Heat health and heat proofing homes

You’re invited to join Nillumbik’s Dementia Friendly Alliance for a community preparedness information session on heat health and heatproofing homes. 

Ambulance Victoria will cover essential tips and strategies to look after yourself and loved ones during the warmer months, including:

• recognition and treatment of heat related illness
• staying hydrated, keeping cool, and avoiding activities during the hottest part of the day
• snake bite management
• taking care around water
• who to call for help, for non-life-threatening emergencies

REthink Nillumbik will explain the best ways to keep your home cooler, more comfortable and safer during hot weather while helping you save on energy bills. You’ll learn practical tips on: 

• how to stop heat from entering your home
• cool down the house efficiently
• make the most of your house design.

The session will cover a range of options to suit different homes, appliances, and budgets. 

Council officers from the Emergency Management, Environment and Sustainability and Ageing Well teams will be on hand to answer any additional questions you may have.

Afternoon tea will be provided. There is no cost for this event.
