The Musical Memories Choir meets every Friday at the Hurstbridge Community Hub, offering an inclusive and therapeutic singing experience for people living with dementia their families, friends and carers who support them.
The choir also offers a Zoom option for people who want to join online.
The choir is designed to foster social connection, cognitive stimulation, emotional expression and the joy of shared music-making.
Why join this choir?
Music is an enjoyable and powerful part of our lives. It connects us with the moments in our lives. It is there for us through tough times and also in our most joyous moments. When we listen to those special songs, we remember those moments. Singing with others brings us closer together, as we share our songs, and feel the great physical and social effects of singing.
Facilitated by registered music therapist Nicole Andersen, the choir uses evidence‑based musical approaches to support wellbeing and help participants thrive. Since its beginnings, the program has grown into an active choir in Nillumbik, the Rewire Musical Memories Choir warmly welcomes anyone wishing to experience the positive impact of singing in a supportive, dementia‑friendly environment.
