Wattle identification workshop and walk

Join us for an engaging community event exploring the diverse world of wattles—discovering which species are beneficial for the environment and which pose a threat to native ecosystems.

We will go over some basic methods of identifying wattles, with lots of samples of local acacias we can use as reference.

This event is perfect for landowners, bushland managers, and nature enthusiasts looking to deepen their knowledge and contribute to the health of Nillumbik’s landscapes. This will be very beginner friendly and give some practical tips and skills that will help you identify plants in our local landscape.

We will start at the Hurstbridge hub with some information on the basic Acacia physiology and then practice how to identify them using a key.

Council’s environmental officers and Volunteers will then lead a guided walk along the Diamond Creek to put new identification skills to use. We will finish with a planting opportunity.
