Yarramie Reserve

This reserve is a hot spot for diversity providing an opportunity to connect and learn from nature in our suburbs. Here you’ll find a canopy of eucalyptus, wattles, cherry ballarts and a variety of wildflowers, native grasses and orchids. The flora provides habitat for many native animals from sugar gliders and birds in the trees, to echidnas hiding under the scrub.

There is a playground and open spaces of lawn for children and families as well as trails through the scrub to explore the bushland.

Highlights

Fauna – sugar glider, echidna, micro-bats, owls

Flora – orchids, rice-flowers, lilies, peas

Friends Group

Yarramie Reserve is lucky to have a Friends group carrying out weeding, planting, and flora and fauna observation projects including checking nest boxes and hunting for orchids. The aim is to enhance the biodiversity through increasing the cover of indigenous plants and keeping the weeds at bay.

The convenor of the group, Therese said “The Friends group has been running for over 20 years. In that time, we have pulled weeds and planted areas with indigenous plants to ensure the protection of habitat for native animals. The open grassy forest is a wonderful place to walk and observe native birds nesting, such as tawny frog-mouths.”

Friends of Yarramie Reserve meet on the third Saturday of each month between 10am-12pm.
