Community encouraged to apply for environment grants

Published on 08 August 2019

Nillumbik residents who have ideas about how to care for our local environment through community-led projects are encouraged to apply for a community environment grant.

In partnership with the State Government, Council is offering grants to both community groups and individuals as part of the Community Environment Grant Program.

The grant pool is $30,000 and each individual grant will be valued between $300 and $4000.

Mayor Karen Egan said a broad range of environmental project ideas were eligible for funding as part of the program.

“Projects that encourage and empower people to take more action, be more environmentally aware, benefit Nillumbik’s local environment and improve people’s connection to nature are what we’re looking for,” Cr Egan said.

“Nillumbik residents love their environment and I encourage those who have a strong connection to nature and want to enhance the community’s connection to nature to apply for a grant.”

Environment and Sustainability Portfolio Chair, Cr Jane Ashton said the program was a fantastic opportunity for the community to discover and contribute to the local environment.

“From citizen science projects to starting a new environment group and creating a garden, there are so many fantastic initiatives for residents to have a think about and submit an application.”

Applications close 8 September 2019. To apply for the Community Environment Grant Program or for further information, visit or call 9433 3141.
