Collect a lost pet from Nillumbik Regional Pound

Nillumbik Regional Pound impounds and cares for lost, stray and unowned domestic animals found in Nillumbik or Banyule. The pound is managed by Nillumbik Shire Council. 

Animals must be collected within eight days.

Our pound service for cats is managed by the Cat Protection Society of Victoria.

We also work with the Save a Dog Scheme.

Nillumbik Regional Pound is open:

  • 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday
  • 8am to 11.30am Saturday and Sunday

Closed public holidays.

How to collect your pet from the pound

Before you visit

Step 1.Call us

Call 9433 3111 Monday to Friday 8.30am-5pm (excluding public holidays).

Step 2.Pay release fee

An invoice will be emailed to you with details about the release fee and instructions on how to make payment online.

Step 3.Book a time to collect your pet

Once payment has been made, a Community Safety Officer will be in contact to arrange the return of your pet.

Step 4.Bring proof of ownership

To collect your pet from the pound you will need to provide proof of ownership including:

  • proof of current pet registration
  • two forms of personal identification, one being photographic ID.

Unregistered pets

If your pet is unregistered, you will need to register your pet before collecting it.
