Report a dog attack

If emergency services are required, call 000 immediately.

If a dog attack is currently in progress, please call 9433 3111 so we can respond immediately.

Council's Community Safety team takes dog attacks seriously. We encourage you to contact us as soon as possible if you or your pet has been attacked by a dog.

A dog attack includes incidents where a dog attacks or bites a person or animal, or a dog rushes at or chases a person.

According to the Domestic Animals Act 1994 (Vic), the person in control of a dog at the time of an attack is responsible for the dog's actions.

How to report

Step 1.Call us

Contact Council as soon as possible to make a report on 9433 3111

Step 2.Provide information

The following information will help us to investigate:

  • Date, time and location of the attack
  • Photos of the incident and any injuries to you and/or your pet
  • Description of the attacking dog
  • Contact details of the owner and any witnesses, if possible

At a later stage, you may need to provide records from your doctor or vet, if applicable.

Step 3.We will contact you

After you make the initial report, one of our Community Safety Officers will contact you to take a statement and gather any additional information. They will then commence an investigation.
