Community Bus

Council provides an affordable door-to-door community bus service to assist Nillumbik residents to access shops, services and social activities. This service operates on weekdays and is subject to availability.

Eligibility

The community bus is for residents who are 65 years or over, are registered with My Aged Care, and have been referred to Council for community transport.

Residents who are under 65 years, do not receive NDIS support, and have limited physical mobility are welcome to contact Council on 9433 3723 to discuss their situation. Council is not a registered NDIS provider.

Accessibility

The community bus has a wheelchair hoist and can accommodate passengers who choose to remain in their wheelchair for the journey. The bus can also accommodate passengers with fold-up wheelchairs who choose to transfer to a seat for the journey.

Passengers who do not use a wheelchair are required to be able to get on and off the bus independently. Drivers can assist with seatbelts and loading and unloading bags and mobility aids as needed.

Where it goes

Passengers can use the community bus to access a variety of services and activities, including:

  • shops (limit two zip up bags per person - these two bags may be inside a shopping jeep)
  • services
  • social activities
  • other community activities or services (eg Living & Learning Nillumbik, libraries or visiting friends)
  • connect to public transport.

Passengers are welcome to contact Council to suggest other destinations within Nillumbik.

Volunteers

The community bus service is made possible by the generous contribution of our team of volunteer drivers. If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer driver, we would like to hear from you.
