House With No Steps

Driving and transport

Community Bus Driver

Community Transport Services assist eligible Nillumbik residents to access shops, services, social activities, medical and health-related services. The Community Transport Service is for eligible residents of Nillumbik who have been assessed and referred by My Aged Care.

One-on-one transport driver

One-on-one transport provides transport to assist eligible Nillumbik residents to access their community. Volunteer drivers use their own vehicles to pick up the passengers at their residence and drive them to their location. Volunteers are reimbursed for the kilometres travelled whilst transporting passengers. If you enjoy giving back to your community, can spare a few hours every week or two and would like to be involved, please get in touch.

Other environment groups

Many friends groups meet around the Shire to care for local parks and reserves. See the full list of friends groups.

Landcare groups protect out natural environment and are a valuable resource of practical support and knowledge to landowners.

Waterwatch is a free river health education and monitoring program, which aims to increase community understanding, participation and ownership of local river health issues.

Other groups include Local Food Connect, Warrandyte Climate Action Now (CAN), Yarra Valley Climate Action Group and the Victorian Frog Group.

Big Group Hug

Big Group Hug works with local communities to respond to the immediate material needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families. We have a number of volunteer positions available including assisting at our warehouse and delivering goods.

Community Meals Kitchen Helpers

Seeking volunteers available the third Wednesday of each month to help out with our Community Meal with basic food preparation, sorting food parcels, chatting to guests, and clean up. Community Meal is a 'no strings attached' nourishing meal for the vulnerable, in need, and isolated in our community. We provide fresh fruit and vegies for guests to take home, a children's play area, and we encourage volunteers to provide a friendly ear if needed. All training included. Austin Health

Volunteers are critical to the delivery of exceptional care and service to Austin Health patients, carers, families, staff and community. 

Volunteers work in roles that enhance the patient experience at all of our sites including Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer, Wellness and Research Centre, and our Op Shops in Heidelberg and Diamond Creek.

We are mature aged men’s discussion groups which have been operating since August 2017 within our local aged care and community facilities. We welcome any inquiry from men who would like to join an existing MENZ DEN Collective (MDC) group or start a new local group.

St Vincent's Care Services

St Vincent's Cares Services is a Catholic, not-for-profit provider of aged care and retirement services with a holistic approach to our care community. Our volunteers allow us to provide additional programs, projects, and increased social interaction and are valued members of our care community.

St Vincent's Care Services Eltham is looking to grow its volunteer base to compliment the already provided services. Our volunteers participate in varied roles from assisting within the Leisure and Lifestyle program, running weekly bingo, to driving the bus, administrative duties or being a companion to particular residents.

No experience is necessary to be a volunteer, just willingness to dedicate a small amount of your time weekly or twice weekly. Volunteer roles can be designed to best suit you and the needs of our residents.

All volunteers will have both referee and national criminal record checks before commencing their placement.
