Hurstbridge Memorial Park

While small, the reserve sits in a mix of landscapes including riverbank, tall eucalypts and wetlands. It creates a diverse range of habitats showing off local flora and fauna and is important for the biodiversity of the area with its connection to other reserves in Nillumbik through the Diamond Creek Corridor.

The walking tracks along the creek connect to the Diamond Creek Trail and Fergusons Paddock. If you are lucky, you may even find a platypus who calls this area home. They are very sensitive to habitat degradation which makes it even more important to protect and respect these reserves.

Anne's Wetland is an important section of Hurstbridge Memorial Park providing unique habitat for fauna. The array of species allows for the wetland to be in flower for much longer, supporting a large diversity of insects. These include rare and special beetles, flies and large native bees like the Chequered Cuckoo Bee and Blue-banded Bee.

Highlights

Fauna – Platypus, Gang-gang Cockatoos, King Parrots and an abundance of insects
Flora – Daisies, Lillies, remnant Manna Gums

Friends group

Hurstbridge Memorial Park is lucky to have the Friends of Diamond Creek – Hurstbridge caring for it for the last 15 years. The main activities are removal of exotic plants and weeds, and restoring the area by planting indigenous plants. They are focusing on increasing habitat for insects, birds and animals. They want to attract people so that they can appreciate and enjoy the biodiversity of the area. Get involved through the Friends groups webpage or go to Friends of the Diamond Creek, Hurstbridge Facebook.
