Report a road issue

If you have noticed a maintenance or safety issue relating to a road in Nillumbik that Council maintains, you can report it to us.

Urgent issues

For urgent issues requiring immediate attention such as:

  • tree on road
  • oil on road
  • other slippery surfaces that may require emergency help
  • glass or debris on the road
  • damaged or missing signs
  • missing marker post or blue road reflector

Other road issues

Council is responsible for local residential roads. Major or arterial roads are managed by the Victorian Government Transport Victoria.

Transport Victoria roads

Roads that the Victorian Government maintains include:

  • Bolton Street/Sherbourne Road/Karingal Drive, Eltham
  • Bridge Street Eltham (Main Road to Bolton Street)
  • Eltham-Yarra Glen Road Eltham (Main Road) to Christmas Hills
  • Fitzsimons Lane
  • Heidelberg-Kinglake Road (includes Diamond Creek Road, Main Street, Chute Street, Main Hurstbridge Road, Scott Street, Caledonia Street)
  • Kangaroo Ground-St Andrews Road
  • Kangaroo Ground-Warrandyte Road
  • Kangaroo Ground-Wattle Glen Road
  • Kurrak Road Plenty
  • Research-Warrandyte Road
  • Ryans Road Diamond Creek
  • Wattletree Road Eltham
  • Yan Yean Road Yarrambat (Diamond Creek Road to Doctors Gully Road)

Transport Victoria is responsible for both maintaining the road and managing traffic on these arterial routes.

For issues on a Victorian Government-managed road, report the issue to VicRoads.

Council roads

Council is responsible for maintaining all public residential roads, including local streets, service, link and collector roads. These are roads with lower volumes of traffic and mostly handle local traffic.

If you're not sure who maintains the road, use the Snap Send Solve app, or call Customer Service.

To report an issue

You can report non-urgent issues on Council roads, such as:

  • pot holes 
  • asphalt repair
  • safety barrier maintenance
  • road edge breaks or drop-offs
  • grading
  • line marking
  • street sweeping. 

Snap Send Solve

The Snap Send Solve app is the easiest and quickest way to report issues to Council.

Step 1.Download the app

Search for 'Snap Send Solve' on the App Store or Google Play and download for free.

Step 2.Create an account or sign in

Use your existing Apple or Google details, or sign up using your email.

Step 3.Confirm your location

The app will detect your location so there's no need for you to provide an address.

Step 4.Take a photo

Make sure you are in a safe spot, and don't snap if doing so may put you in harm's way.

Step 5.Send your report

Your report will be sent to Council by the Snap Send Solve app.

Step 1.Find out who manages the road

Check the list above to make sure it's not managed by Transport Victoria.

If the road is maintained by Transport Victoria, report the issue to VicRoads.

Step 2.Have the details ready

To lodge the online request you will need to provide:

  • the address or name of the road where the issue is
  • your details (if you would like to be contacted or check on the progress of the request)
  • the nature of the request and whether it relates to a made (sealed) road or an unmade (unsealed) road.

Step 3.Complete the form

Submit the form online.

Step 1.Make a note of the address

You will need to provide the address (street number, street name and suburb) where the issue is located.

Step 2.Call us

Call 9433 3111 from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays.

Issues with roadworks

If you are concerned with any traffic management or works, initially contact the associated traffic management company who is carrying out the works. If after this you still have concerns, contact Worksafe on 1800 136 089, or call 13 23 60 for emergencies.
