Our bin service

Nillumbik Shire Council provides a kerbside bin collection service for most residential properties.

When bins are collected

Standard service:

  • Green waste (green lid) - weekly
  • Mixed recycling (yellow lid) - fortnightly
  • Rubbish for landfill (red lid) - fortnightly

The yellow and red bins are emptied on alternate weeks, so if your yellow bin is collected this week, the red bin will be collected next week.

Check your bin dates

For the standard bin service, there is an annual waste management charge for 2024-25 of $658.35. This is payable with your rates. To change the size or how often your bins are emptied, you can request a change to your bin service.

How to put your bins out

decorative
  • Place bins out by 6am on collection day, half a metre apart and away from trees, power poles and cars.
  • Squeeze any air from bags of rubbish before placing in your landfill bin. This will create more space in your bin, stop waste from getting stuck and prevent a partially-emptied bin.
  • Do not over-compact your bin by pushing contents down too hard.
  • Do not overfill your bin - the lid must be closed.
